Allied Landscape
An Evolving Landscape – Assembly Bill 1572, commonly known as the California Non-Functional Turf Ban, marks a significant shift in the state’s approach to landscaping practices.
The ban on non-functional turf recognizes the need for a paradigm shift in landscaping practices to align with water availability realities.
For landscape professionals, the legislation presents both challenges and opportunities. On the positive side, it opens up avenues for innovation and creativity in designing landscapes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also eco-friendly. Embracing native plants, drought-resistant species, and water-efficient irrigation systems becomes not just a choice but a necessity, pushing the industry towards greener practices. However, the transition comes with its set of challenges at a time that many of us are stretched to keep up with many other regulatory challenges.
AB 1572 signals a crucial step toward a more sustainable and water-conscious future for California. While challenges exist, the potential benefits for the environment, businesses, and future generations makes it the right thing to do from my perspective.
Please reach out if I can help, happy to share the pain of change together.
