From the President – August 2025
Despite August being one of the most challenging months for managing landscapes, I feel like I can finally see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel that is the peak summer season. My daughter just returned to school this week which—despite the fact it still feels like the middle of summer—reminds me it’s time to start thinking ahead: closing out the year strong and planning for what’s next.
I’ve been reflecting on a quote by James Clear, author of Atomic Habits: “You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.” This resonates deeply in our industry. Goals give us direction, but it’s the systems—those repeatable, intentional processes—that determine whether we reach them.
Whether you’re just starting to put systems in place and wondering how to find the time, or you’re a seasoned pro continually refining them, our chapter has two upcoming lunch trainings designed to help you turn good intentions into practical results.
On September 19, we’ll host a lunch session on developing and implementing a company safety program—aimed at Supervisors and Managers who play a critical role in making safety more than just a manual on a shelf.
Then, on October 16, we’ll hold a lunch training on goal setting. We’ll share best practices, real-world examples, and clear steps for creating systems that move your business forward.
These sessions aren’t just about new ideas—they’re about building the structures and habits that will carry you, your team, and your business to the next level. I encourage you to bring your key people and invest in the systems that will help you meet and exceed your goals.
See you there.

Protecting Your Business: Technology Tools to Increase Safety
The Edge from the National Association of Landscape Professionals
By Jill Odom
Technology is frequently implemented to boost speed and efficiency, but it can also impact your team’s overall safety. Some of these tools are becoming more commonplace, while others are more recent introductions. As you consider ways to strengthen your safety measures, don’t forget to look at different ways technology can be integrated as well.
