Dear CLCA East Bay Chapter Members,
The busy season is definitely here across the East Bay. Crews are moving, schedules are filling up, and many of us are balancing maintenance work while trying to keep install projects moving forward. It’s also the time of year when we really start to see projects come to life, and that’s one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
Even with changing market conditions, homeowners are still investing in outdoor spaces that improve how they live at home. Whether it’s updating irrigation, creating gathering spaces for family and friends, or making landscapes more functional and water-conscious, there continues to be steady demand for quality work throughout our area.
This time of year also highlights how important strong teams are to our businesses. Finding and keeping good employees remains a challenge for many companies, and as schedules get busier, communication and leadership become even more important. One takeaway from our recent Field Supervisor Panel Discussion was how much impact field leaders have on the success of crews, projects, and company culture as a whole. Setting clear expectations, supporting employees, and creating consistency in the field really does make a difference.
The busy season is also a reminder of how important organization and efficiency are to keeping projects on track. Daily planning, communication, and teamwork can make all the difference when schedules tighten and the pace picks up.
That’s also why staying connected as a chapter matters this time of year. I’d like to thank everyone who joined us for the April 24th networking event at The Draft Sports Pub in Pleasanton. It was great to see members take time out of their busy schedules to connect, catch up, and spend time together outside of the jobsite.
I also want to encourage everyone to stay involved with chapter events and trainings throughout the season. Some of the best conversations and ideas still come from spending time with others in the industry who understand the same day-to-day challenges we all face. I also hope many of you will join us at the June Beautification Awards Presentation & Dinner, where we’ll have the opportunity to recognize the outstanding work being done throughout our chapter and celebrate the teams behind those projects.
Wishing everyone a safe, productive, and successful month ahead.
East Bay Networking at The Draft Sports Pub
Thank you to everyone that joined us at The Draft Sports Pub in Pleasanton and networked with the 2026 Board of Directors, Chapter Partners and other landscape professionals on Friday, April 24th. Attendees enjoyed appetizers and a beverage hosted by the chapter.
Thank you to Vision Recycling for sponsoring complimentary entry to the adjoining Maverick’s Country Bar* and a free ride on the bull. Some of us showed that bull some mooo-ves.

Horizon
When competition is fierce and margins are slim, a good strategy to build your bottom line is to offer high margin services that complement your current service offerings.
One of the biggest opportunities for both construction and maintenance contractors is landscape lighting. Landscape lighting is easy to install and has a higher profit margin than almost any other landscape project.
In this article, we’ll focus on 5 key tips to get you started.
Tip #1: Take Advantage of Free Training and Local Support
It’s easy to fear the unknown. In order to sell lighting, you have to first understand lighting. But don’t worry. It’s not rocket science and it’s extremely easy to get customers excited about it.
If you’re new to lighting or want to stay current with the latest trends, there’s lots of training and local support available. You can always attend a Horizon sponsored training event. But if you don’t want to wait until dozens of your local competitors are getting the same training as you, contact your local Horizon representative and ask for assistance. We’re ready to show you how to design, install, and sell lighting systems. Our team receives constant training on lighting and can even help you coordinate demos with local reps from the top landscape lighting manufacturers.
